PROGRAM NOTE
This short acousmatic étude was conceived as a purely formal experiment intended to feature a deliberately un-elevated object—namely, a bathroom trash-can—while attempting a displacement of its semantic associations through a constrained writing exercise. The resulting “trash-can percussion” is treated along the lines of contrapuntal imitative writing—evoking the procedures of sacred music— thus forcing new meaning onto it.
The piece invites listeners to re-contextualize sound-objects and challenge traditional layers of meaning.
